About the Conference

A regular international meeting and a conference named “Linux Vacation / Eastern Europe” (LVEE) is carried out in Belarus during last seven years. The conference combines both communication and rest of the enthusiasts of free software and is for today the main social event of the Belarus open source community.

LVEE Winter 2012, the winter session of Linux Vacation / Eastern Europe, will be held this year in addition to a traditional variant. The event will take place near the city of Minsk, at Feburary 10–12, 2012.

LVEE Winter is a nonprofit conference.

LVEE Winter has the goal of experience sharing between the specialists at design, development, maintenance and adoption of open source solutions, and the IT business representatives, interested in the free / open source software phenomenon.

The conference format includes oral presentations, lightning talks, round table discussions, and code-sprint. Speakers will be provided with a conference hall with all necessary equipment.

Tasks of the Conference are to give participants the ability of the experience exchange, to organize discussions on most urgent evolution directions and tendencies in the branch and calculated practical knowledge. Meeting is aimed to highlight the legal and economic specifics of the free / open source software usage, as far as to set dialog and mutual understanding between the IT business representatives and the developers community, and to share experience of winning relationships in the field of free / libre licenses for the information products.

The Conference covers a wide range of platforms – from workstations and servers, including virtualization-based ones, to embedded systems and mobile devices. The subjects traditionally include following directions:

  • development and testing of free software,
  • administrating systems based on it,
  • adaption experience of the open source solutions, and building business based on open technologies,
  • the role of free / libre technologies in the evolution of corporate and state IT systems,
  • legal and organizational peculiarities of the free software usage.

Recommended Conference languages are Russian, Belarusian and English.

A cascade publication is provided for presentation materials of LVEE Winter 2012. It includes placing abstracts in public access before the conference with following additions of multimedia materials (slides and video of presentations), as far as later publishing in printed book of LVEE 2012.

The types and terms of payment are available in the Payment section. The sum includes expenses for accommodation and meal (breakfast, dinner and supper), transportation from Minsk to the Conference place and backward, as far as additional LVEE Winter 2012 attribution. Authors of reports, sponsors representatives and the press are free from paying listed fee.

February, 6 is a deadline for both participation request and abstracts submission.
